Meet The Speakers for NetZero GOVERNMENT
The free online event providing guidance and advice to help the public sector reach the government’s target of ‘net zero’ by 2050

In June 2019, the government passed legislation in which it committed to achieving ‘Net Zero’ greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, which would mean reducing emissions substantially from current levels.
NetZero GOVERNMENT aims to bring together key experts that are helping drive forward the public sector strategy. The event will cover key areas including Buildings & Energy, Waste & Recycling and Sustainable Transport.
Here's a look at some of the speaker that will be providing presentations and answering your questions in the Q&A sessions...

Yumann is a Policy Executive at Energy UK where she leads the Young Energy Professionals Forum's Secretariat. Passionate about the environment and sustainability, her work in the Forum focuses on energising young professionals on key topics surrounding net zero. The organisation recognises the key role of the younger generation in implementing the final details of our climate targets as we approach 2050. Yumann also works on the Energy Switch Guarantee, liaising with energy suppliers and stakeholders on consumer engagement and switching behaviour.

Jason has been Policy Director for UK100 since April 2018. He previously worked at Greenpeace, Sustrans and Campaign for Better Transport, and has also been seconded into the Department for Transport to advise on walking and cycling initiatives. In addition, he has co-chaired a stakeholder advisory group for Highways England.

Nick has been working in energy efficiency and sustainability in the built environment for the last 13 years, both in consulting and in-house roles across engineering to property management organisations. Nick’s been an accredited Energy Performance Certificate Assessor and BREEAM Commercial Assessor in the past, and has managed portfolio wide certification programmes for EPCs/DECs, Air Conditioning Assessments, BREEAM Certification and other mandatory and non-mandatory reporting requirements.
The rise of Big Data and data analytics in the built environment is allowing better understanding of energy use and where the opportunities to drive large savings are in a large and diverse estate.

Chris Hewett joined the Solar Energy UK (formerly Solar Trade Association) in 2017 and became Chief Executive in January 2018. He has 25 years’ experience in advocacy, policy research, thought leadership and campaigning on a wide variety of sustainability, energy and environmental issues.
He was Head of Climate Change for the Environment Agency, providing advice to UK Government on climate change mitigation and adaptation, led successful advocacy for the Green Investment Bank at Green Alliance, global aviation research for the Committee on Climate Change, and major contributions to debate on energy regulation, environmental taxation and low carbon policy at the Institute for Public Policy Research.

Mark is the Climate Change and Sustainability Project Manager for Rochdale Borough Council. His role is to lead on improving sustainability and reducing the borough’s carbon footprint to realise health, social, economic and environmental co benefits. He supports the preparation, implementation and monitoring of an overarching sustainability and carbon reduction strategy for the borough of Rochdale as well as ensuring that the Council fulfils its obligations under the Greater Manchester Environment Plan.
Prior to joining Rochdale Council in December 2020, Mark was a management consultant who worked on renewable and sustainable energy projects for local authorities. He also previously worked for the Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE) as the Assistant Chief Executive and was instrumental in setting up ‘APSE Energy’ a collaboration of over 60 UK local authorities with the aim of remunicipalising energy services and supporting the important role of councils in the energy transition and achieving net zero.
Mark is a member of the Association for Renewable Energy and Clean Technology (REA) and the Town and Country Planning Association (TCPA).

Stephen Lowndes BEng (Hons) MSc CEng MCIBSE MEI has many years’ experience of energy project design, as well as supporting operational management including carbon and energy management within the public sector that started with NHS projects in the 1980s.
Stephen is a Chartered Engineer and Certified Measurement and Verification Professional and leads the Carbon & Energy Fund technical delivery team, working on all aspects of project feasibility through to construction and operational delivery.

Tim Anderson joined Energy Saving Trust 2007 and leads the low carbon transport portfolio. Previously, he was in management roles in the automotive sector including daily rental and managing fleets. Tim is leading the work to address the climate emergency and poor air quality through delivering EST’s government funded programmes and commercial projects in the sustainable transport sector.
Tim has successfully developed many new partnerships to deliver greater impact to decarbonise transport and deliver cleaner air. His role involves working with the Department for Transport and Transport Scotland along with other key stakeholders in the sustainable travel industry.
NetZero GOVERNMENT will be delivered using the online platform, webevents365. Cutting out the need for travel to a venue puts a marker down as to how we plan on helping the UK public sector deliver on its Net Zero strategy.
Taking place on 17 June, the platform has a live chat function, allowing you to network with your peers. You can post questions for the experts, in the Q&A element, and help shape the strategy, moving forward, by casting your vote in the live polls.
