The Protect Duty

How body worn cameras will play an important role in the new legislation...

As you may have heard, there is a new legislation that will shortly come into force, 'The Protect Duty'. Otherwise known as 'Martyn's Law', the new piece of anti-terrorism legislation is designed to ensure the public is better protected from a “multifaceted, diverse and continually evolving” terror threat.

The new legislation is in response to a campaign by Figen Murray, the mother of Martyn Hett who sadly lost his life in the Manchester Arena terrorist attack in May 2017. The campaign has emphasised the need to improve security standards in crowded public spaces and venues.
