What is the Great British EV Rally?
|
Put simply, the Great British EV Rally (GBEVR) is a ‘demonstration’ of UK EV charging infrastructure, combined with clean and innovative vehicle technology. Sponsored by the UK’s leading leasing specialists, Lex Autolease, the idea is to demonstrate the key role that EVs can play in UK fleets, as we implement our net zero strategies… No matter what the job, there is likely an EV available that can perform the task… Improving efficiency, saving money and, overall, helping reach net zero.
We will be putting 50 EVs on the road, in July, and set them off from John O’Groats, on a 5-day, 1200+ mile ‘e-Rally’, taking in many of the beautiful landmarks across the UK, but most importantly, showcasing the charging infrastructure and clean energy at the same time.
The event will come to life across social media platforms, featuring pictures, video and LIVE broadcasts…
|
Our Champion Partners, otherwise known as Teams, are entering a ‘representation’ of their fleets, consisting of a mixture of cars and vans.
|
Team Lex Autolease will enter 3 cars and 1 van: “As one of the UK’s leading leasing companies and the green fleet experts, our ambition is for all our customers to have fully electric fleets by 2030. But awareness and education around electric vehicles (EVs) are key to achieving this goal. That’s why we’re proud to be this year’s lead sponsor for GB EV rally 2022 – and taking part too!” Two of the ‘Team Lex’ vehicles are kindly supplied by remarketing specialist, British Car Auctions (BCA).

Team AA have a mixture of cars and vans, and are our Roadside Assistance Partner, there to keep the rally moving smoothly.
Drivetech, the Driver Training Partner, are providing driver educational pieces throughout, including tips-of-the-day to support the drivers on their travels on the 1200+ mile journey.
Webfleet Solutions, the Technology Partner, are placing telematics devices in some rally vehicles, to show the progress of the rally, and the driver style which contributes towards the ‘Driver of the Day’ competitions, plus an overall Team League Table.
Team Cinch will have 2 x vehicles participating, with an expected mix of Jaguar iPace and Tesla Model 3, plus 3 x additional support cars for Team GBEVR (the organisers) and Media Partner, LOCALiQ. The rally will also visit cinch’s newly acquired site, Rockingham race circuit, on Day 3, for some EV fun on track.
Entering vehicles and participating in the fleet event of the year is Team Karcher, Team Bp Pulse, Team DPD, Team National Grid, Team OVO Energy, Team Mitie, Team Char.gy and Team Green2.
|
Charging will be a key focus of the event and through ‘collaboration’, we are delighted to have access to the Paua and bp pulse networks throughout the 5 days, as well as the Gridserve Electric Highway and Forecourt. And while in Scotland on days 1 and 2, SWARCO will provide unlimited access to the ChargePlace Scotland Network. All the while, drivers will get in-vehicle support from Zap-Map, with access to their Premium service, integrating charge point location and status with the vehicle’s navigation system.
Assisting us along the way are our 3 x Host Authorities, who will each meet the Teams and showcase the work they have done to support the rollout of EV’s. In Scotland, we have Dundee City Council, in the north we are welcomed by Leeds City Council and in the West, on day 4, we are visiting West of England Combined Authority.
Providing the media coverage is LOCALiQ, part of the NewsQuest group, who will drive the whole rally and report on the excellent work Britain has done to work towards its Net Zero goals, as well as the challenges EV drivers still face, and how local authorities, charging providers and manufacturers need to collaborate and work together to address them.
