Introducing OCR's refreshing new A Level Sociology for first teach September 2026*.
|
We're making some improvements to our qualification to ensure it continues to engage students, provides accessible assessments, and is even easier for teachers to deliver.
We're currently working with Ofqual to secure accreditation of our updated specification, with first teach planned for September 2026 and first A Level exams for 2028*. We’re also updating our AS Level.

Why choose our A Level Sociology?
|
|
1. | | Engaging, contemporary content, including globalisation and the digital social world |
2. | | Topics that are unique to OCR, such as modern crime prevention strategies and gender identity |
3. | | Accessible assessments, with fewer command words, reduced maximum tariffs and shorter source lengths to help reduce cognitive load during exams |
4. | | A clear and detailed specification, outlining exactly what needs to be taught |
5. | | Comprehensive support for teachers – from access to an expert subject advisor to a collection of free TV and radio clips and programmes mapped to the specification by the Educational Recording Agency (ERA) for use in class or as homework. |

If you have any questions about our qualification or teaching with us in general, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
|
*Please note, our draft specification and sample assessment materials have been published to enable teachers to have early sight of our new A Level Sociology. However, changes may be required as part of the accreditation process, and our proposed first teach date may also change.
